Framed51's News

Posted by Framed51 - 2 weeks ago

So! It's officially been one year since I joined Newgrounds. Thats nuts! Time is flying by for sure. Let's see what I did this year!

Starting off, this year I focused on my 3D rigging skills. I spent weeks breaking down rigs, studying them, and piecing my own. I really went in and put elbow-grease that I normally didn't do and with that I've made a giant step in my 3D medium!

I mainly learned a lot about face rigs, constraints, and a ton of fancy blender bone stuff. Cooper here was my first major rigging accomplishment this year

With more improvement and iteration in Richard

and pushed even further with Zane Little's commission!

Now, I didn't learn these new rigging techniques for nothing, this year I had also gotten more into animation!

To break in, I melted Cooper's brain! This was just a practice animation, to get a feel for animating more than just a walk cycle. For what it was, I'm honestly surprised the animation did as well as it did here.

I also animated Richard giving a quick greeting. Practice animation again! although this one was considerably more challenging than Cooper's. This was the first time I actually animated a character doing something with more personality. The way he walked, and his facial expressions. It took me a while to get down.

I was also picked up by YouTube Shorts Creator, Stay Shorts, to animate for his channel! It was my first side job animating. I felt really self-conscious about taking it, I didn't see my animation skills being ready. However, I'm glad I did! It helped me get used to animation and improve my work along with working with another person. I've made A LOT of animations for their channel and I'm currently making a reel featuring some of my favorites

In April, I had begun work on my BIG animation project, a full 3 minute-ish short featuring Cooper! I foolishly said it'd be done in around 3 months, then I said at the end of this year and... Oh boy. Happens to every animator, right? I'm still working on it. The animation is a little over half-way done now. I'm actually excited it for it, I'm proud of what I'm making so far, and I can't wait for people to see it! All I can say now is I'll try to get it done ASAP.

This year I did a few more commissions! Including a couple users here on NGs like 9Hammer, and ZaneLittle! I wish I could take more, but I only have so much time in the day between work and my own projects.

Maybe after my big animation project, I'll be open to commissions again!

I've also thought about opening a Ko-Fi or a Patreon or something, to take more time off work and focus on my 3D projects, but I don't know. I feel like I haven't proved my worth for one yet.

I also got the lucky draw for User of the Day! Thats awesome! It really is an honor to be featured here on New Grounds! This site genuinely has the best and most interactive community I've seen! The artworks and animations here really inspire me to create!

I only participated in one collab this year, being the Homer Collab, but I'm hoping in 2025 I'll be able to take part in more!

2024 was genuinely a great year for me! I even specifically remember feeling like I was at the top of the world in a lot of days. Not like I'm usually a downer or anything, but I just felt more than happy with my life.

I'm excited for 2025

Yo! Just wanted to give an update on my animated short that I'm working on, its going good, very good! I have about a minute and half of not-quite-polished animation so far! It's been the main project I'm tackling recently with little bit of Art Fight whenever I can. I'm hoping to get this animation done in about 3-4 more months! Just give me time! I'm cooking somthin' !

Here's a run cycle too.

Hey guys, here's a rendered still from my animated short that I'm working on! I'm really excited, this is going to be my first ever big animation project! It has a little story, and it's going to be around 1- 2 minutes long. So far, I've been having a ton of fun with it! I'm hoping to finish this in the next 3 months or so.

Also, Thank y'all for 600 followers! Newgrounds has been extremely generous to me, more so than any other platform that I've been on, I really appreciate it! There're so many talented artists and quality works here too, I wish I joined NG years ago.

Alrighty, so, I'm working on a bunch of stuff, modeling another character, upgrading a rig to an old character for animations, and also editing a time lapsed modeling video for Simon Petrikov.

The new guy I'm modeling is this skeleton dude! I original drew him up 2 years ago and kinda forgot about him, anyways I think he looks cool and would be a fun challenge to model!

I'm currently re-rigging this dude! He's getting a more advanced rig for animations, cuz I plan on animating him duhh. His model is also being adjusted to look closer to his 2D counterpart! The rig is almost finished, he has his usual IK and rubber bones, but now also FK bones, foot roll mechanics, smoother spine bends, hair control, squash and stretch capable head, poseable dot eyes that stick to the face and can move all around, and a couple drivers for animations.

Right now, however, the facial rigging is kicking my ass, I want his mouth to be really expressive and be able to get exaggerated when it needs to, but it's so complicated to set up. I've only rigged a face once and it wasn't that good, so this is going to take a while.

I'm hoping to get the Time lapse video done pretty soon. Looks like I spent a total of 8 hours modeling him which should be a relatively "short" video for me to edit once its sped up but it might also be missing some chunks cause lately I've just been forgetting to hit the record button, hopefully its not missing a ton.

Been a few weeks since my last update post on my cat model. It doesn't really take me this long to create a character model, he just isn't on my highest priority right now. Anyways I've modeled most of his body! I'm still flip flopping on his clothing, so this might not be his final look.

I also tried playing with different methods of making his fur, and I don't know man, I didn't like working with the particles system, and I didn't want to model chunks of hair like I did with my Vanoss model. I might try something with the multi-resolution modifier and sculpting, but I wouldn't count on it. If you happen to know a good method for stylized fur, please let me know!

Hello! This is my first news post!

For a while, I've just been posting some of my old artworks (albeit re-rendered and touched up), but now I'm actually creating something fresh n new! I'm currently 3D modeling this cat dude! Not the most original design, but I like the scraggly stupid look. Plus, I'm taking this opportunity to practice different styles of hair and fur in Blender, actually modeling hair at various details and also taking a crack at the more realistic particle systems again.

It's gonna be fun!
